Guitar Chord Charts Online

This article will show you how to make the best use of free guitar chord charts that you can find online. As the internet changes, sites go down and new ones come up, so I won’t risk this resource going out of date by discussing where to find your free guitar chord charts, just how to use them to kick start your guitar playing.
You can easily get together a nice collection of chord charts and lyrics to your favorite songs to help you learn to play the guitar. If you feel that you should be learning a whole bunch ofmusical theory and how to read musical notation, but somehow feel it’s just not you, then that’s okay – start with what you feel most enthusiastic about. Once you have started to learn using guitar chord charts you have bought or downloaded for free, you might see as you go along that you will need to know a little bit aboutmusical theory to see how chords and scales fit together. If, however, you are comfortable learning chords to your favorite songs, then keep at it.
So let’s start with the basic baby steps and work up to some really useful knowledge about guitar chords and how the dots on the charts relate tomusical sounds.
You know the frets on your guitar’s neck somehow show you where the notes are, so let’s get a little more technical. You will see when you use scale charts to learn to play guitar tunes that in a given position on the fret board, you will sometimes need to move up or down one fret or two frets. If you play the note at the first fret, and then move up to the second fret, you have moved up a semitone. If you have moved up two frets, it’s called a tone. The distance between the notes E and F or B and C is a tone. The distance between the notes C and D is a tone. So as you learn songs in different keys you will start to see that what you are playing when you play scales is different patterns of tones or semi tones on the guitar neck.
If you have watched guitarists play you will have noticed that sometimes they place their index finger across all six strings. This is called a barre. When you begin to learn songs you will be making use of chords played in the FIRST position on the fret board. These are mostly open chords, that is chords that do not make use of the barre.
You can try to play barre chords any time, but it’s a bit ambitious to expect to be able to use them until after your hands have done some practice with open chords.
When you are learning chords to accompany songs, you will probably make use of your chord charts showing you chords that use all the guitar’s strings. But if you want to get into playing solos start with the three note chords called triads. The three notes in a triad are the basic notes of your chord, so by learning triads you will begin to see how the guitar chords are structured. Also you can move your triads up and down the fret board to make new chords.

The Convenience of Online College Courses

Posted by admin on Aug 23, 2010 in Classes

Technology is truly remarkable, allowing just about anyone the opportunity to take online college courses. These days a quality education is available to just about everyone, and not just the lucky few who live near college campuses, or can afford to go away to school.
The incredible convenience of online college courses has opened a door of opportunity for students all over the world. With online college programs offering degrees, even those who are overseas can attend a quality college without ever having to leave their homes. In the past it was not uncommon to see several foreign students on campuses around the country, but what you didn’t see was the many students that could never attend these schools because of the cost of temporarily relocating to the country where the university was located.
Not only is it a lengthy and complicated process for overseas students to attend colleges in the United States, or Great Britain, but also it can be very costly. Most students were simply not in a position to do this, and as a result had to bypass getting their education abroad. Now with the many online college courses that can lead to a degree in a variety of fields, these students have many of the same opportunities that other students had in the past.
This is great news for foreign students seeking a quality education abroad, but these online college courses are also great news for those who live in rural communities, without a nearby college they can attend. Today, it is no longer necessary for those in rural areas to go away to school and take on that extra financial burden, thanks to the convenience of online college courses.
There are many universities that offer their students a quality education through online college courses. These schools have programs focusing on a variety of different fields of study, including technology fields, healthcare administration, social work, as well as many areas in the field of criminal justice.
In addition to getting your degree entirely online, if you are in a position to attend a traditional college, but would prefer to take at least some of your classes online, this is also possible. Many, if not most universities now offer their students the option of fulfilling some of their degree requirements with online college courses.
If you are an adult thinking of returning to school, but are worried about the extra burden college classes will have on your time, taking online college courses is a great alternative to traditional college classes. When you take online college courses you can often continue with your current job with no disruption, as you can attend to your course work on your own schedule.
For adult students, going back to school to earn your degree does not have to be a huge burden if you take care of the majority of your requirements with online college courses. Stay at home moms can also benefit from the convenience of online college courses.

Medieval Education

Posted by admin on Aug 19, 2010 in General Education

Medieval education is about education that was conducted in the medieval period. Medieval education is seen as quite an unusual form of education. However, by the 15th century, there were options for a student to be educated further. Some schools even housed both genders, but this was during the day only. Children were taught their basics, such as how to read and write. This is because these were the basic requirements if they wanted to be accepted under apprenticeship in any guild.
Medieval education also consisted of peasant children going to school. However, they made up a very small number. They were taught how to read and write, and also studied basic math. This education for peasants was usually conducted at a monastery.
As part of medieval education, noble girls and even boys were sent to learn at nunneries. There, they would receive their basic education. The nuns taught these students how to read and write too. They would also teach them how to pray. Girls were additionally taught how to spin and do needlework amid other domestic skills. http://www.360career.com These were inculcated in order to prepare them for later life, as these were basic skills required when a woman got married.
If a child took his or her education seriously at a monastery, he or she would have a monastic life. However, this was quite rare for an average townsman or peasant. Also, these individuals would be carefully selected for these ranks. If they were deemed suitable according to their demeanour, they would be brought up by the monks.
Today, medieval education practices are still visible. The same monastery education students are given is a clear reflection of it. The education that children receive at missionary schools in various parts of the world also reflects similar forms of education. A major difference that is seen is the widespread existence of books. In medieval times, there were many schools that operated without the use of books. Students were taught by skilled masters, and were often educated for dubious benefits. The rich or others that did provide education in medieval times did so for their personal gain. There were very few that really wanted to educate people in the true spirit of enlightening more minds.

As time has passed by, some aspects of medieval education have faded while others have remained. It can be argued that the aspects of medieval education that were useful for the purpose of education have remained. Regardless of some characteristics remaining, the overall process has changed a great deal. This is because education could not have the same face as it did hundreds of years ago. Today’s education is different from medieval education in so many ways. For example, you have the inclusion of group work and activity based learning. You also have the inclusion of computers for education in this modern age. No one in the medieval period would have ever contemplated the use of such items.

Another important development to mention, and one that is used almost throughout the world is the Montessori method. This is something that did not exist in the medieval period, and it took many years for it to be popularized since Maria Montessori first used it. Indeed, the Montessori Method cannot be likened to any medieval method of education. It was developed independently as an innovative teaching method. In addition to the Montessori Method, there are other teaching areas today that have been developed without any medieval education influence.

Though medieval education has provided the fundamentals for formal education, some people prefer to deny medieval education methods the credit it is given. They believe that the formal method of students being seated in classrooms would have developed later anyway, whether medieval education used this arrangement or not. This does make sense because it is unthinkable for any other arrangement to be used. It is further argued that it is more likely that this would have been the case in modern education because student interaction is encouraged. For better student interaction, a classroom of a suitable number of students would have been recommended. Regardless of these arguments, we still find many traces of medieval education in our modern setups today.

America Conquers the Air

Posted by admin on Mar 11, 2010 in History

Today, with thousands of airplanes taking to the sky at any given moment and the experience of flying high above the earth as common as riding a bicycle, it seems that a world where men did not fly is as far away as the ancient Romans.  But we have to travel in time back to the days before the Wright brothers made their phenomenal discovery and the invention of the first aircraft when there was a time when it was firmly believed that man would never fly like a bird and indeed, man was meant to never fly but always be a terrestrial being.  We can be grateful that the Wright brothers did not hold to that belief.

The date of that first successful flight was December 17, 1903.  It was on that fateful day that Orville and Wilber successfully flew the first controlled, powered, heavier than air airplane.  This break through ranks as one of the greatest inventions of American history and in truth, one of the great inventions of all time as man had been dreaming of being able to fly as far back as we have primitive drawings illustrating that dream.

The Wright brothers were well suited to go through the tedious research to finally create a machine that could accomplish this feat.  We all know that great inventions are often the results of hundreds or thousands of failures and tests by which the inventor refines his ideas and makes new discoveries that take him step by step toward that final break through.  That was certainly true of the Wright brothers.

Our reference to flight becoming as common as riding a bicycle is well chosen because it was the Wright brothers vocation as mechanics repairing printing presses, motors and bicycles that gave them the knowledge of the inner workings of such machines that was needed to create a machine that could sustain flight.  Their work to perfect the design of the common bicycle lead them to believe that conquering flight was not a question of providing sufficient power to the aircraft as it was providing mechanisms of control and balance to properly keep the aircraft steady with sufficient consistency that it could take to the air.

Long before that first successful flight, the Wright brothers conducted their research.  Using their bicycle shop as a makeshift laboratory, they first experimented with gliders and unmanned aircraft to refine their theories and their designs.  But finally on December 17, 1903, they achieved their dream of manned flight, even if only for a short time.  Orville Wright’s account of that first flight is scientific and understated.

“Wilbur started the fourth and last flight at just about 12 o’clock.  The first few hundred feet were up and down, as before, but by the time three hundred feet had been covered, the machine was under much better control.  The course for the next four or five hundred feet had but little undulation.  However, when out about eight hundred feet the machine began pitching again, and, in one of its darts downward, struck the ground.  The distance over the ground was measured to be 852 feet; the time of the flight was 59 seconds.”
